The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who managed the business until 1973. Today, the Messias Caves are still run by the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the main demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port wine.
