The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who maintained its management until 1973. Today, the Messias Caves remain under the stewardship of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the main demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port.
