Description

Quinta de Tourais, located in the Douro, has been owned by the Coelho family for three generations. Until 1999, all the grapes grown on the estate were sold wholesale to an exporting company for the production of Port wine. In 1999, under the enological direction of Fernando Coelho, the first wines began to be produced. At that time, the property where these wines are born covers 8 hectares, with about 37,000 vine stakes planted. The estate relies 100 % on the traditional Douro grape varieties, whose richness and diversity produce unique wines that reflect the personality of the terroir that gives them origin. Among whites and reds, Quinta de Tourais cultivates around 30 different varieties, most of which are grown on plots that are over 60 years old. The passion invested in every step of the process—from monitoring the soil and vines to the final product—is evident in the wines' distinctive character and is also reflected in the care given to their image. They always strive to combine the most valuable lessons that traditional production offers with the innovative techniques and technologies of the present.
