Description

Herdade Grande is an agricultural estate located about 5 km from Vidigueira in the Alentejo region, covering a total area of 350 hectares. Of that land, 60 hectares are vineyards, 40 hectares are olive groves, and the remaining portion is used for sheep grazing. The property has been in the same family’s hands for roughly a century, having been acquired in 1920 when vineyards and olive trees were already present. The current owner, born on the estate, earned his degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia in 1970 and serves as the manager and producer of the estate’s wines. Together with adjacent properties, it forms a 750‑hectare Tourist Hunting Reserve. The winemaking project began with vineyard plantings in 1980 and the start of vinification in 1997, with plans to produce and market between 350,000 and 400,000 bottles of wine, of which 30 % are white and 70 % red.
