This Montecillo Gran Reserva arrived with a deliciously mysterious air, clearly having spent a considerable time maturing. It reveals itself gradually, a truly vibrant wine that, after so long, still holds onto its aromas with a touch of defiance. The Garnacha tinta – or Tempranillo as it’s often called – hints at a beautiful depth, best unlocked with a careful decant. Don’t expect instant perfection, but rather the promise of a wonderfully aged, complex Rioja – and perhaps a delightfully surprising one at that. Pairs beautifully with roasted meats, amplifying the experience.
