Montes Claros DOC Alentejo. The final and most decisive battle of the Restoration War took place at Montes Claros on 17 June 1665. A bloody clash that left thousands of casualties on both sides – Portuguese and Castilian. Today, as in the past, Montes Claros remains a land of vineyards. A brand with more than 80 years of history that has drawn attention to the quality and potential of Borba wines. Wines that preserve tradition while being vibrant, distinctive, and offering excellent value for money. The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards, generally with vines older than 30 years, and are subjected to rigorous ripening control to determine the optimal time for manual harvest. In the winery the grapes arrive in excellent condition and undergo partial destemming and crushing, followed by fermentation and an extended maceration of 10 to 12 days to extract the best aromas and all the complexity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation follows, partly in stainless‑steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels. For greater complexity, structure, and richness, the final selected batch is aged 12 months in 2nd‑ and 3rd‑year French and American oak barrels, and then 6 months in bottle for final refinement.
