Depending on its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust traces on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels, which is common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Wine Cellar is obliged to store all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always opts to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We generally select the brands/regions that normally look good in old‑wine tastings. However, wine is a living organism that, like others, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas undergo different evolutions. Thus, the National Wine Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of the wine, as it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle aerate beforehand, as this will help release the natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting the wine, as it may be too aggressive for old wines. (illustrative image)
