Description

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, Thomas Reynolds moved to the Alentejo region with the aim of working in the cork industry. Three generations later, his grandson John Reynolds acquired the Herdade do Mouchão for wine production. In 1901 the estate’s first vines were planted, and in 1929 the construction of a traditional winery and a distillery began—still today producing the Mouchão brandy. Today, the Herdade do Mouchão remains run by descendants of the original family, and the winemaking process is virtually unchanged, preserving the hand‑harvest and the fermentation of grapes in stone vats, with foot‑pressing. These techniques and the estate’s long‑standing success keep this viticultural enterprise close to the character of wines of old.
