According to its age, the wines may show signs left by time, such as dust on the bottles and/or some label damage – a common occurrence in wines that have spent decades in storage. The National Cellar stores all wines at the proper temperature and humidity, yet it chooses to preserve the visual characteristics that come with age. We typically select brands and regions that perform well in old‑wine competitions. Nevertheless, wine is a living organism, exposed to time, and even sealed in a bottle its aromas can evolve in different ways. Consequently, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, as it is an old wine. Our advice is to open and let the bottle breathe first, which will help release its natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting – it can be too aggressive for old wines.
