Starting out in the Port wine market as a trader, he quickly set up a business that would prove both prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a seminal figure in the world of wine, recognised as one of the most important personalities who has worked for and continues to work for Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his own legacy with those who consistently create bold, irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort is involved in many other projects, spanning practically every Portuguese wine region and several abroad.
