In Portugal’s national wine panorama, there is no producer more popular than Niepoort, and the long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. Starting out in the Port wine market as a trader, he quickly set up his business, which would prove prosperous and enduring. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a prominent producer in the wine world, recognised as one of the most important figures who has worked for, and continues to work for, Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with several dozen producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his legacy alongside those who always create irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort collaborates on many other projects, in virtually all Portuguese wine regions and some overseas ones. (Illustrative image only)
