In the national wine landscape, there is no more widely acclaimed producer than Niepoort, and the long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. Upon entering the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly established his business, which would prove prosperous and enduring. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a prominent producer in the wine world, recognized as one of the most important figures who has worked for and continues to champion Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his legacy alongside those who continually create irreverent wines.
