In the national wine panorama, there is no producer more consensual than Niepoort, and its long history began in 1842 when the first Van der Niepoort arrived in Portugal. Starting out in the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly set up a business that would prove prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born, an unstoppable figure in the world of wine, recognised as one of the most important personalities who has worked – and still works – for Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while shaping his legacy alongside those who always create irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort collaborates on many other projects across virtually all Portuguese wine regions and a few overseas ones.
