Sogrape Vinhos was founded in 1942 by Fernando van Zeller Guedes, with the ambition to introduce Portuguese wines to the world and a long‑term vision based on the quality of the wines it sells, the importance of brand novelty, and the presentation of its wines. Today led by the third generation of the founding family, Sogrape Vinhos increasingly fulfills the goal set at its founding: to be a family‑owned, internationally oriented company focused on producing quality wines, innovation, and developing Portuguese brands of global standing. Sogrape Vinhos owns about 830 hectares of vineyards in Portugal. Offley, founded in London in 1737 by William Offley, initially as a wine trading house, quickly began exporting wines and later produced its own Port wine, giving the brand worldwide recognition as a producer of high‑quality wines. A decisive moment for the company's growth came when Joseph James Forrester joined as a partner. Baron Forrester, as he was known, played a key role in expanding the international trade of Port wine and was the first person to map the Douro River and its valley, earning him recognition and admission to several European societies of Geography and the Arts.
