Description

The white wine Palácio da Brejoeira, produced from the Alvarinho grape variety, typical of the Vinho Verde region, shows a citrine colour with mixed aromas suggesting citrus and tropical fruit, flowers and dried herbs. Harmoniously blended with these aromas, minerality stands out, revealing itself throughout the tasting. On the palate, it is equally complex, balanced, fresh and elegant. The Neoclassical building, still showing Baroque influence, was commissioned at the beginning of the 19th century by Luís Pereira Velho de Moscoso, Gentleman of the Royal Household and Knight of the Order of Christ, among other honourable positions within the Monção community. He had the Palácio da Brejoeira built on an old family estate known as the Quinta do Vale da Rosa. In 1937, it was acquired by Comendador Francisco de Oliveira Paes to give it to his daughter, Maria Hermínia Silva d'Oliveira Paes, born in 1918. She restructured the property and undertook the planting and commercialisation of the prestigious Alvarinho wine, "PALÁCIO DA BREJOEIRA." The Alvarinho grape, planted in soils with clay-limestone components, gives rise to unique and easily identifiable wines of strong personality and temperament. (illustrative image only)
