It seems these Coa grapes were a bit of a handful before finding their way into wine – a cool maceration certainly added a touch of intrigue to the process. The alcohol was carefully introduced at controlled temperatures, of course, to preserve the expressive character of the Douro’s indigenous grapes. A 14-month aging in French oak has imparted a wonderfully velvety texture, making this wine a superb match for grilled beef.
