This Papa Figos is a boldly-spirited little number – perhaps a touch much for the faint of heart. A vibrant deep red wine, it bursts with ripe black fruit and a hint of spice, evocative of the Douro Valley. Dominated by Touriga Nacional and Aragonês, it offers a wonderfully lively acidity, begging for a pairing with roasted black pork with dried figs – a combination, I suspect, that the Papa Figos himself would wholeheartedly endorse. A wine to be savoured with a generous dose of playful disregard.
