Low yields, a long maceration, and the use of appropriate oak give this wine an uncommon longevity and complexity. The grapes receive a fantastic boost of structure and tannins. This red wine is born in a privileged setting. “Piani” means “plain,” and indeed this hill has little slope. These plots have always been renowned for the quality of Barbera. The typical elegance of this variety in the Langhe region—intense colour and acidity but low tannin—is blended here with a solid structure that imparts the wine a distinctive identity.
