Pó de Poeira The region’s temperatures are always very high in summer, and on a north‑facing slope the grapes ripen more slowly, preserving aromas, flavours and acidity better. Pó de Poeira is the second stage of our Douro adventure, which began in 2001 with the purchase of the estate and the production of the first Poeira. The ability to produce high‑quality white and red grapes on the same estate again shows the vast diversity of the Douro and how this diversity exists even on small properties. Vine age: 1 ha at 15 years, 0.7 ha at 5 years. Grafting system: traditional Gouyot vine; terrace vine on a single‑row slope. Planting density: traditional vine 5,500 plants/ha; terrace vine 3,500 plants/ha. Soil type: slate. Altitude: 400 m. Harvest method: hand‑picked into 20‑kg crates. Vinification: 50 % in stainless steel, 50 % in barrels. Maturation: 6 months in French oak barrels. The capacity to produce high‑quality white and red grapes on the same estate again underlines the immense diversity of the Douro and shows that this diversity can be found even on small holdings. In 2004, while preparing the land for planting, we encountered 1 ha of terrain whose soil was completely different from the rest of the estate—deeper, less stony, more fertile, and with greater water availability. This plot lies in a more sheltered area, with fewer hours of sun exposure. It became clear that although we were working with “A” grade sites (considered optimal for Port wine production), we had an opportunity to produce excellent white grapes. SKU: 104263
