Pó de Poeira Temperatures in the region are always very high in summer, and on a north‑facing slope the grapes mature more slowly, preserving aromas, flavors and acidity better. Pó de Poeira is the second stage in our adventure in the Douro, which began in 2001 with the purchase of the estate and the creation of the first Poeira. The possibility of producing high‑quality white and red grapes on the same estate again demonstrates the vast diversity of the Douro, and how this diversity exists even in small properties. Varietal ages: 1 ha with 15 years, 0.7 ha with 5 years. Planting method: traditional vines in Gouyot; terraced vines in a single‑row cordon. Plant density: traditional vines 5,500 plants/ha; terraced vines 3,500 plants/ha. Soil type: slate. Altitude: 400 meters. Harvest method: hand‑picked for 20‑kg crates. Vinification: 50 % stainless steel fermentation and 50 % in barrels. Aging: 6 months in French oak barrels. When we were preparing the ground for planting in 2004 we encountered 1 ha of land that had soil completely different from the rest of the estate – deeper, less stony, more fertile, and with greater water availability. This plot is located in a more sheltered area, with fewer hours of sun exposure. It became evident that, although we were dealing with Grade A terrain (considered optimal for Port wine production), we had an opportunity to produce excellent quality white grapes.
