Although the Vinha do Pombal’s contribution of Touriga Nacional baptizes this wine, the structuring grape of the final lot is Touriga Franca—making it more suitable for early consumption, where the goal is to highlight aromatic qualities, subtlety and elegance. The colour is deep garnet with a violet rim. It displays the typical Touriga Franca characteristics, with exuberant floral notes of clove and violet, plus subtler hints of spices, eucalyptus and wild berries. On the palate it’s quite vigorous, peppery, generous and full of bite, with touches of black cherry, blackberry and subtle dark‑chocolate notes. Firm yet simultaneously round, it finishes with a persistent mouthfeel. It spent 10 months aging in 400‑L French oak barrels, then was bottled and aged in the cellar for at least six months. Pombal do Vesúvio is a wine that will bring great pleasure to those who prefer to drink it now—an accessible and seductive choice—yet it also has good potential for bottle ageing over the next 3 to 5 years.
