Porcupine Ridge The Porcupine Ridge brand draws its origins from the estate’s natural setting and from continuous efforts to preserve the property’s biodiversity and surrounding mountains. In addition to a range of rare wildlife and flora – such as erica lerouxiae, which is endemic to Boekenhoutskloof – the estate hosts several families of crested porcupines, which, however, are rarely seen due to their nocturnal lifestyle. Our winemaking philosophy has always been to follow a natural approach, without acidification or additives. The resulting wines are much more about a generous palate than simply primary aromas followed by acidity. ~ Marc Kent VINTAGE AND ENOLOGIST’S COMMENTS The 2022 harvest was of exceptional quality. The overall growing season was cool, with favourable climatic conditions for most of the period. January and February recorded a sudden temperature spike that contributed to a smaller, highly concentrated, and good‑quality fruit yield. As Swartland is known for producing Syrah, we believe we can savour the unique climate and sunny slate soils in our wines made from this variety. The characteristic perfumed profile is classic, and abundant violets are a trademark of Swartland Syrah. Our goal is structure and texture with a pronounced aromatic, and the study of didactic literature allowed us to produce a wine with great varietal expression. Gentle winemaking practices with minimal intervention contribute to this Rhône‑style, very approachable wine. We use only French oak barrels and always choose to prioritise fruit over oak‑derived aromas. Allergen information Contains sulfites. SKU: 106954
