In the nineteenth century, the catastrophic arrival of powdery mildew, downy mildew and phylloxera forced winegrowers to intercrop vines with olive trees in order to survive. In the twentieth century, however, the creation of cooperative wineries breathed new life into viticulture and winemaking, reviving the culture of the vine and wine. It was in this context that AcR was founded in 1956 by a group of fourteen winegrowers, going on to confirm the winemaking potential of Alentejo in the 1980s. Today, the Adega is one of the largest wine producers in the Alentejo Region, bringing together some two hundred producers, that is, roughly 95% of the Redondo sub-region.
