Description

Tawny wines are reds made from the same grapes as Ruby, but they age only two to three years in barrels before being transferred to casks. These casks allow greater contact of the wine with wood and air, so Tawny wines breathe more, oxidising and maturing rapidly. The high oxidation causes the wine to lose its initial red colour, taking on lighter amber tones and flavours of dried fruit such as walnuts or almonds. With age, Tawny wines acquire even greater aromatic complexity, enriching their aromas. The bottling year may not correspond to the image shown. (image purely illustrative)
