Biaia Beira Interior — Castelo Rodrigo Subregion The vineyards, situated at an exceptional altitude between 700 and 750 metres, cultivate the characteristic varieties of this region and are spread across three distinct plots, each with its own unique traits. The Alvandeira vines grow on clay‑loam soils; the Souto vines are planted in a transition zone between granite and slate; and the Lameiras vines are set on granite and quartz soils. Biological production, combined with a terroir steeped in history and shaped by the natural setting provided by the Douro, Côa, and Águeda rivers, gives the wines from this estate a unique, characteristic profile deeply tied to the territory. Vinification and Maturation The grapes, hand‑picked at their ideal ripeness, are packed into 20‑kg crates and carefully transported to the cellar. Upon arrival, they undergo a meticulous manual selection, followed by de‑picking and gentle crushing. The grapes are then pressed in a pneumatic press, and the resulting must is transferred to stainless‑steel vats where it rests at 8 °C for 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled 12 °C for 30 days. After fermentation, the wine ages for 8 months on fine lees, with regular stirring of the lees (bâtonnage), contributing to greater complexity, texture, and balance.
