According to its age, the wines may show signs left by time, such as dust traces in the bottles and/or label damage—common in wines that have been stored for decades. Garrafeira Nacional stores all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, yet always preserves the visual character appropriate to their age. We usually choose the brands/regions that perform well in old‑wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism, subject to time, and even in a bottle its aromas evolve. Therefore Garrafeira Nacional cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, as it is an aged wine. We recommend opening the bottle and letting it breathe first, which helps release the wine’s natural aromas after many years of closure. Avoid decanting, as it may be too aggressive for old wines.
