This Alfrocheiro from Quinta da Fonte Souto is a delightfully puzzling wine. The high altitude and schist and granite soils whisper through its mineral notes, with a hint of graphite reminiscent of the forest. Despite a noticeable ageing expression on the palate – featuring dark plum, chocolate, and a touch of molasses – the spicy tannins and vibrant acidity suggest a remarkable evolution. Best enjoyed with time in the bottle, perhaps paired with a hearty pork roast, to fully reveal the singular character of this Alentejo gem.
