The Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima stretches along the south bank of the Tagus, about 2 km from the village of Alpiarça and 11 km from Santarém. In 1834 the estate was purchased by Henrique Teixeira de Sampayo, 1st Count of Póvoa. A few years later, the marriage of D. Maria Luísa Noronha de Sampaio to D. Domingos António Maria Pedro de Souza e Holstein, 2nd Duke of Palmela, returned the property to the Casa Palmela. Today it remains under family management, covering 45 hectares of vineyards planted with both national and international varieties.
