This Douro Tawny, born from vineyards with a history as long as the river itself, certainly seems to have enjoyed a particularly generous – and successful – ageing. The result is a deeply amber liquid, hinting at decades spent contemplating oak, alongside nutty notes reminiscent of the old vine’s spirit and a touch of chocolate that adds a welcome layer of sophistication. A wine earning a remarkable 96 points, it’s unlikely to leave anyone unmoved, and pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and a bit of dried fruit, if you ask me.
