After dedicating almost 50 years of his life to viticulture in Duriense, José António Castro Ramos Pinto Rosas decided to make his dream of creating the “perfect estate” for producing Port and Douro wines a reality. Following a long and detailed study of the Demarcated Douro Region and with the aid of topographic maps, José Rosas identified a property of roughly 20 hectares in the Upper Douro near Vila Nova de Foz Côa, whose characteristics he judged to provide ideal conditions for producing superior‑quality wines. Today the legacy continues with Jorge Rosas, son of José Rosas and great‑great‑grandson of Adriano Ramos Pinto, founder of the eponymous house. (Illustrative image only)
