In 1927, 11 partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), and the company now boasts over 80 years of history. From the outset it began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export, mainly wines, sparkling wines and brandies, making Aliança a recognizable brand in Portugal and in around 60 countries where it ships. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing the winery into the Bacalhôa Group. The corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and the company’s institutional image was updated at the same time. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal is one of the largest and most innovative wine producers in the country. Over the years it has developed a broad portfolio of wines that has earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both domestic and international consumers. The company operates across seven Portuguese wine regions, covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 grape varieties, and four wine centres (cellars). It distinguishes itself in the market by its scale and by maintaining 70 % autonomy in its own production. (Illustrative image only)
