This Arinto from Quinta do Arcosó is a delightfully understated reminder of the grandeur of the Vidago region. The winemaker’s minimalist approach – 80% stainless steel, coupled with ‘bâtonnage’ and 20% French oak – delivers a wine with a truly vibrant acidity, pushing towards the bolder side, alongside incredibly ripe fruit reminiscent of the northern sun. After a patient 30 months ageing in the bottle, this wine has developed a remarkable complexity, a testament to the unique terroir of Trás-os-Montes and the Roman influence that inspired it. A good decant is, of course, crucial to unlock its full beauty. Wonderful with grilled fish and a drizzle of olive oil – a perfect demonstration that sometimes, simplicity is the key to pure enjoyment.
