This wine, crafted at Quinta de Arcossó, is a wonderfully reverent tribute to tradition – almost a ritual. The winemaking process, entirely manual with the assistance of enormous 1000-litre dornas, speaks volumes about the deep respect for the Trás-os-Montes terroir: a granite hillside at 400 metres, with a significant 20% slope, is clearly its key secret. The extended fermentation in century-old chestnut barrels, relying solely on gravity, ensures the soul of the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Roriz remains beautifully preserved. The result is a wine of such intense colour it practically begs to be devoured, brimming with aromas of red berries and black olives, underpinned by a powerful granite minerality. It’s an utterly captivating sensory experience, a wine that – surprisingly – doesn’t need filtering or racking, offering its full essence with an impressive robustness and a lingering finish hinting at mint and spices – a true testament to the Douro’s potential.
