This Douro Reserva from Quinta de la Rosa is a delightful demonstration that tradition and innovation can certainly harmonise. The Touriga Nacional, bolstered by the exuberance of Rabigão, creates a full-bodied wine, brimming with ripe black fruit and a hint of spice – a genuine echo of the Douro’s schistous soils. Decanter’s praise – describing it as “a powerful wine with character and ageing potential” – certainly rings true. It’s a fantastic match for a perfectly grilled beef dish, or perhaps a hearty roast.
