Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal was founded in the 1920s by Abel Pereira da Fonseca in the Bombarral region. At the time, Abel Pereira da Fonseca owned the largest chain of public retail outlets in the country, leveraging his position to create a company dedicated solely to the production and trade of wines. The company comprises three estates—Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras, and Quinta de São Francisco—situated in the Lisbon Wine Region, specifically within the Demarcated Region of Óbidos. Here the properties benefit from a microclimate shaped by the Serra de Montejunto and the Atlantic Ocean, giving the still, fortified, and aguardente wines a fresh, balanced profile that reveals their unique character.
