The earliest known historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. However, it was in 1980 that Álvaro de Castro, a civil engineer with a passion for wine, enthusiastically acquired the estate, reviving a family tradition of winemaking that had been dormant for two generations. Later he also bought Quinta de Saes. These two estates, located at the foothills of Serra da Estrela, benefit from the shielding of Atlantic winds, resulting in aromatic and complex wines.
