The earliest known historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. However, it was in 1980 that Álvaro de Castro, a civil engineer with a passion for wine, enthusiastically acquired the estate, reviving a family tradition of winemaking that had been dormant for two generations. Later he purchased Quinta de Saes. These two estates, located at the foot of the Serra da Estrela, benefit from protection by Atlantic winds, which yields aromatic and complex wines.
