“Malvarinto de Janas” from Quinta de San Michel is a delightfully perplexing wine – a seemingly unlikely blend of Malvasia de Colares and Arinto. Enologist Alexandre Guedes expertly guides this marriage, allowing the Malvasia to impart a refined elegance, while the Arinto provides a refreshing burst of acidity. Following an extended maturation – eight months in French oak barrels and a further 28 in bottle – the result is a remarkably layered and lingering wine. It’s particularly well-suited to grilled fish, or perhaps paired with the hearty character of a good cheese from the Serra da Estrela.
