Depending on its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust residue on the bottles and/or damage to the labels, a common occurrence in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Wine Cellar is obliged to store all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We usually select brands/regions that normally perform well in old wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism, like others, exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas evolve. Thus, the National Wine Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine's quality, given that it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe beforehand, as this will help release the wine's natural aromas after so many years of being sealed. Avoid decanting; it may be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image only)
