“Ventozelo Essência is a wonderfully disciplined wine, demonstrating a real sense of finesse. Harvested entirely by hand – a reflection of the region’s exacting standards – the grapes undergo a meticulous selection process, rejecting any fruit that doesn’t quite measure up to the rigorous optical sorting. Following fermentation in stainless steel tanks with precise temperature control, the wine spends time ageing in 50% new, 50% old French oak barrels, imparting subtle smoky notes that, frankly, more than compensate for a touch of spice on the finish. Expect a vibrant mouthfeel with well-defined tannins and a remarkable ageing potential. It’s superb with game meats or, for a lighter pairing, grilled fish with roasted potatoes.”
