Description

The Quinta do Cardo is located in the Beira Interior region, in the Castelo Rodrigo sub‑region, close to this village. The vineyards are planted at an average altitude of 750 metres, sheltered by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo mountain ranges and bordered by the Douro, Coa and Águeda rivers. Covering a total area of 180 hectares, of which 69 are vineyards, all certified organic, the remaining land consists of an extensive reserve of cork oaks and natural forest. The first vines were planted in 1932, and the recognition of wine quality has remained constant over the years. The Companhia das Quintas acquired the estate in 2001, preserving the undeniable quality of the whites and revealing the potential of high‑quality reds in the region. With an uncommon style in Portugal, the reds from Quinta do Cardo showcase balsamic notes, great freshness, and complexity. (illustrative image only)
