Description

The Quinta do Cardo is located in the Beira Interior region, in the Castelo Rodrigo sub-region, close to the town of the same name. The vineyards, planted at an average altitude of 750 metres, are sheltered by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo mountain ranges and surrounded by the Douro, Coa and Águeda rivers. With a total area of 180 hectares, 69 of which are vineyards—all certified for organic production—the remainder consists of extensive cork oak reserves and natural forest. The first vines were planted in 1932, and the quality of the wines has been consistently recognized over the years. The Companhia das Quintas acquired the estate in 2001, maintaining the indisputable quality of the whites and showcasing the potential of quality reds in the region. In an uncommon style for Portugal, the Quinta do Cardo’s reds feature balsamic notes, remarkable freshness and complexity.
