This Couquinho Vintage feels plucked straight from a Douro fairytale. The colour is so intense, you almost see the sun, and the aroma is wonderfully enveloping – think ripe black fruit like blackberries and figs, perfectly balanced with a refreshing ‘engaço’ note. Smooth, well-integrated tannins are supported by the elegance of Touriga Nacional, culminating in a finish that’s simply begging for a piece of dark chocolate – a pairing, I must admit, that seems remarkably inspired.
