Description

Quinta do Crasto The Crasto Altitude 430 wine is the result of research carried out by the viticulture and oenology teams at Quinta do Crasto, aimed at exploring the potential of the many native grape varieties of the Douro region. The distinctive features of Crasto Altitude 430 begin with the grape varieties used – Tinta Francisca (70 %) and Touriga Nacional (30 %) – Portuguese varieties typical of the Douro, which make up the final blend that Quinta do Crasto believes meets this wine profile. Tinta Francisca, a variety that at altitude has always shown good freshness and a very interesting aromatic component, produces a wine with a lighter color but excellent structure. Touriga Nacional, being a very expressive variety that also shows great acidity and natural freshness at altitude, aromatically offers fresher red‑fruit aromas rather than the denser fruit typical of lower‑altitude Touriga Nacional grapes. The vinification of Crasto Altitude 430 is also distinctive, following a process different from that used for the rest of Quinta do Crasto’s wine range. **Designation of Origin:** Douro. **Vintage:** 2022 was marked by extreme weather conditions, with a very dry climate and high temperatures during spring and summer. Despite the impact on grape yield and ripening, Quinta do Crasto’s old vines showed great resilience, producing grapes of excellent quality. The result was wines with moderate alcohol content, balanced acidity, stable colours, good structure, and remarkable elegance. **Vinification:** The grapes, harvested and transported in 22‑kg crates, were subjected to rigorous sorting upon arrival at the cellar. They were then gently crushed and transferred to stainless‑steel fermentation tanks with temperature control, where they fermented for four days with light skin contact and minimal extraction, before being pressed onto barrels where fermentation completed. **Aging:** 12 months in used French oak barrels. **Bottling:** October 2024. **Vine age:** 18 years. **Aspect and altitude:** North · 430 m. **Systematization:** High‑vineyard; vineyard on terraces of two tiers. **Analytical data:** Total acidity: 4.8 g L⁻¹ | pH: 3.70 | Residual sugar: 1.6 g L⁻¹. **Winemakers:** Manuel Lobo, Cátia Barbeta. **Prizes** 17/20 – Revista Grandes Escolhas (PT / 2023) (2021) 17/20 – Revista Paixão Pelo Vinho (PT / 2023) (2021) Bronze Medal – Decanter World Wine Award (UK / 2022) (2019) 17.5/20 – Revista Grandes Escolhas (PT / 2021) (2019) **Allergen information** Contains sulfites. **SKU:** 106209
