Casa Santos Lima, headquartered in the municipality of Alenquer, was founded in 1991 to continue the winemaking activities of the Santos Lima family, which began in the late 19th century by Joaquim Santos Lima—at the time one of Portugal’s largest wine producers and exporters. In 1996 the company started bottling its wines, which had previously been sold in bulk. Today, with more than 200 hectares of vineyards, Casa Santos Lima is the region’s leading producer, accounting for over 30 % of Lisbon’s certified wine output. With a strong focus on internationalisation, Casa Santos Lima is one of the biggest drivers of wine export, shipping more than 90 % of its wines to roughly 40 markets. (illustrative image)
