Quinta do Estanho Vineyard: Plantings dating from 1932 to 1970, with a density of 8,850 vines per hectare. Located on the steep slopes of the Rio Pinhão, at an altitude of 300 m. The soil is of xistose origin, poor and rugged, yielding low production but delivering highly concentrated, quality grapes. 2019 harvest: a cold, dry winter with little rainfall. Spring brought abundant rain, replenishing the soil’s water reserves. May ended abruptly with heavy showers during flowering, causing yield loss and delaying vegetative growth. Disease pressure was high, demanding intensive plant protection. Summer began with rain, but August was hot and dry, allowing maturation to regulate. A hot September accelerated ripening, resulting in concentrated, balanced wines of exceptional elegance. Winemaking: Old vines with around thirty different identified varieties. Hand‑picked in 20‑kg crates, followed by meticulous hand selection. Gentle foot‑crushing in small vats, cold maceration for five days. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts, started slowly and extended over ten days with daily punch‑down. Post‑fermentation maceration for 30 days. Twenty‑four months in new French oak barrels. Winemaker: Luís Leocádio. Limited production: 3,600 numbered bottles, sourced from the best barrels of the batch. Service and Pairing: Complements intensely flavored dishes such as game, red meats, and aged strong cheeses. Prizes Gold Medal – 3rd Douro Wine Competition Highly Recommended – Revista de Vinho 2024
