The Quinta do Poço do Lobo Reserva Rosé is a Bairrada DOC wine crafted from an equal blend of Baga and Pinot Noir grapes. With a very pale pea‑green hue, it offers an elegant and complex aromatic profile that includes fresh red fruit notes, dried flower petals, and subtle mineral nuances. Fermentation takes place in wine‑straw barrel tanks and stainless‑steel vessels, followed by five months of bâtonnage, which enhances its complexity. On the palate it is fully dry, fresh, and elegant, ending with a long, persistent finish. The Quinta do Poço do Lobo was acquired by Caves São João in 1971 and is a rustic estate spanning about 37 hectares, situated in the small hamlet of Pocariça in the municipality of Cantanhede. After the acquisition, the estate was restructured with the planting of new grape varieties in addition to traditional ones, aiming to innovate while staying true to its heritage. Founded in 1920 by brothers José, Manuel, and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that originally focused on marketing fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today it remains the oldest still‑operating family wine company in the municipality of Anadia. In the 1930s, following the ban on producing Port wine outside Vila Nova de Gaia, the company began selling table wines from Bairrada. At the end of the 1950s, the celebrated Bairrada wine brand “Frei João” was launched, and later the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the demarcated Dão region (illustrative image only).
