This “Dona Maria Vintage” from Quinta do Vale is a wine that doesn’t mess around. It boasts a colour reminiscent of the darkest Douro nights, and the nose erupts with intensely ripe wild berries – strawberries and raspberries – already at their peak, subtly spiced with a touch of mystery. On the palate, the structure is firm, reflecting the age of the vines from which it hails, finishing long and with a pleasant warmth. Seriously, it’s magnificent with a good Iberian ham – consider it a match made in wine heaven.
