Quinta do Vale Meão In 1877, D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira—already owner of the largest agricultural estate in the Douro—purchased 300 hectares of virgin land at the Vila Nova de Foz Côa town hall in a public auction. Her ambition was to build a model estate from scratch, leveraging the extensive experience she had amassed as a businesswoman from Douraz. Her pioneering spirit in the Upper Douro stemmed from the conviction that excellent quality Port wines could be produced there. The grapes from the Quinta formed the base of some of the finest Port wines shipped from Gaia. Today the estate remains in the hands of her descendants, who over the past two decades have been selecting Port lots with the aim of launching Tawnies bearing age indication. To that end, they equipped one of the two cellars built on the property by her ancestor with vats, barrels, and pipes for aging these Ports exclusively from the estate’s own vineyards. With justified pride, the fourth and sixth generations revive the family tradition after patiently awaiting the right moment to present these wines to the world. Quinta do Vale Meão has consistently produced Single Quinta Ports since 2000. In 2001, we decided to produce a second batch with the goal of aging it in bottle in our cellar and bringing it to market at full maturity. Service Because of its age, this wine may contain sediment. We recommend decanting before serving. It was re‑clarified in October 2022.
