Quinta dos Roques 2022 was one of the warmest and driest years since 1931! After a cold, dry winter that slightly delayed the emergence of new shoots, spring arrived with high temperatures and very low precipitation. From April onward, it was a streak of high temperatures and drought, setting records. The flowering period was excellent, with no humidity to interfere with good pollination and the picking of all grape varieties. With the dry weather, 2022 was one of the years with the least disease pressure, allowing us to focus on foliage management to prevent any grape from being damaged by the sun. Maturation was somewhat uneven due to the lack of water, and the harvest came earlier than usual. The grapes were in excellent health, with a slightly unusual balance between acids and sugars. Nonetheless, all the wines exhibit wonderful flavors and are very fresh on the palate. We have high expectations for this year’s wines and their aging potential. Vinification: crushing the grapes with partial destemming, followed by gentle pressing in an automatic press. The must was clarified by gravity and settling; fermentation with selected yeasts took place at 16‑18 °C. After fermentation, the wine was stored in stainless‑steel tanks, protected by inert gas, where it underwent natural clarification through the winter cold of the Beiras region. Bottling: the wine’s preparation for bottling involved a slight “collage,” tartaric stabilization by cold, and a brief filtration. Bottled in February 2023. Allergen information Contains sulfites.
